FarStone Launches New CD/DVD Emulation Software

FarStone Technology has announced the expansion of its VirtualDrive CD/DVD management product line to include VirtualDrive 11 and VirtualDrive Pro 11. These new versions include simplified access to tools that improve the portability and convenience of managing CD/DVD libraries and are compatible with the new Microsoft Vista operating system.

With the addition of these new versions, FarStone's VirtualDrive technology is now accessible to a wider array of market segments. Not only will home users and gamers find value in FarStone's VirtualDrive utilities, but small businesses and academic institutions with the need to archive CD/DVD instructional materials and make certain applications readily available for on-demand usage, will also find this as an affordable and easy-to-use solution.

VirtualDrive is emulator software that copies a CD or unencrypted DVD as a compressed image, or "virtual disc", which can be played in place of original discs in any one of up to 23 "virtual drives" that the software creates. Virtual discs can be shared over a network or transported on a laptop computer, USB device, or portable medium. They run directly on the hard drive, saving wear and tear on CD-ROM drives and extending the battery life of laptop computers. They also have access speeds nearly 200 times faster than CD-ROMs, greatly accelerating the performance of PC games, photo CDs, and disc-based applications.

VirtualDrive 11 adds improved game compatibility, supporting more PC games than any other CD emulator. It converts CD-ROMs, audio CDs, mixed-mode CDs, photo CDs, video CDs (DVD-ROMs data-mode) and unencrypted video DVDs. In addition, the software will work with the new Microsoft Vista operating system and software updates coming in the first quarter of 2007 will include support for 64bit processors on both Windows XP and Vista operating systems.
