WinMagic's SecureDoc Full-Disk Encryption Supports Windows Vista

WinMagic announces that its SecureDoc v.4.2 SR4 full-disk encryption software now fully supports Microsoft Windows Vista. Immediately available to early adopters, SecureDoc is uniquely positioned to compliment Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, and Windows Vista Ultimate.

The same purity of design that prevents hackers from bypassing the encryption level while simplifying integration with single or multi-factor authentication through tokens, biometrics, and PKI technology has allowed WinMagic to deliver full Vista support to customers in just one week. It is this competitive advantage that will allow WinMagic to fully support Windows Vista today, and as Windows Vista evolves.

WinMagic has also worked closely with hardware manufacturers to ensure SecureDoc is fully Windows Vista compatible on their technology, and has begun discussions that will see SecureDoc incorporated as part of each hardware manufacturer's standard product build to make it even simpler for users to utilize full-disk encryption to protect all data. These announcements will be made available through WinMagic's hardware partners when laptops ship in early 2007.

WinMagic protects an organization's existing investment in encryption technology as the same version of SecureDoc can be utilized for Windows 2000/XP, and any edition of Vista. SecureDoc also complies with Trusted Platform Module 1.1 and TPM 1.2 to ensure organizations can utilize existing development with all smartcards, cryptographic tokens, PKI keys, or biometric devices at pre-boot.

Administrator, user, and system friendly, SecureDoc installs transparently and silently in the background so as not to interrupt the user, and does not require its own partition on the hard drive, saving administrator time and as much as 1GB of hard drive space. SecureDoc also makes it possible for users to automatically encrypt Flash Cards, SD Cards, Multimedia Cards, Micro Drives, and other removable media. Additionally, removable media can be transferred to other mobile devices and accessed through the SecureDoc PDA user's key, protecting a user's vital information from unauthorized access. This functionality will facilitate system administrators to utilize one encryption solution for LANs, WANs, and GANs, eliminating the administration nightmare resulting from having to manage different security solutions for different devices.

WinMagic's support of Windows Vista eliminates the risk of data being accessed by unauthorized users should a desktop or mobile device be stolen, or should hard-drive disposal procedures fail. The Vista version will also continue to provide the unique real-world functionality that has made SecureDoc the full-disk encryption solution of choice for organizations looking for unparalleled data protection that is simple to install, integrate, and manage. This functionality includes:
- The fastest to encrypt the hard drive
- Ensures maintained and sustained integrity during the hard-drive encryption process, regardless if interrupted by power failure, etc.
- Supports enterprise features such as remote deployment, remote challenge response one-time password recovery, and remote control
- Provides data recovery in case of virus infection (makes restoring encrypted disk as easy as restoring unencrypted disk)
- Encrypts every portion of the hard drive – not leaving any residual bytes unencrypted should the hard drive be partitioned
- Ensures encryption of the entire hard drive regardless of bad sectors or whether the hard drive needs to be defragmented
- Ensures that utility functions like Ghost, and others, work properly.

WinMagic's SecureDoc Enterprise Server edition makes it simple to deploy and manage encryption for hundreds of thousands of users. Remote features permit adding, removing, or augmenting users and profiles as well as allowing password recovery and integration with Active Directory and other LDAP servers such as PKI, and Novell.

Following this release of SecureDoc Enterprise version for Vista, WinMagic will release a consumer Personal Edition product which supports VISTA before the end of 2006.
