Sony PlayStation 3: A Bit of Facts

Sony ushers in a new era in gaming and home entertainment with the launch of the PlayStation 3 system. This computer entertainment system will serve as a platform for consumers to enjoy next generation entertainment in the home for years to come. The PlayStation 3 system is powered by the Cell Broadband Engine, a microprocessor that leapfrogs the performance of existing processors giving the PlayStation 3 system supercomputer-like power and performance. Every PlayStation 3 system is equipped with a built-in Blu-ray Disc player so users can enjoy high-definition gaming and movies. Blu-ray offers developers unprecedented storage capacity so they can fully express their creativity and pristine picture quality at 1080p, the highest-definition resolution available at the moment. The PlayStation 3 system supports a broad range of displays from conventional or standard TVs to the latest full HD (1080i/1080p) flat panel displays.

The PlayStation 3 system also comes standard with Giga-bit Ethernet and a pre-installed upgradeable Hard Disk Drive so users can download a variety of content as well as access on-line games and services over the network. The PlayStation 3 system features the new Sixaxis wireless controller which was built by refining the popular PlayStation controller, the de facto standard in gaming with several hundred million units sold worldwide. The new Sixaxis controller features breakthrough technology and a highly sensitive motion-sensing system so users are able to maneuver the controller as a natural extension of their bodies in real-time and with high-precision. The PlayStation 3 system is backwards compatible so users can still enjoy virtually their entire PS one and PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system games as well as their CDs and DVDs.
