Acer Intros Intel Core 2 Duo-Based Desktop Replacement Notebooks

Acer has announced the US availability of the new notebook series based on Intel Core 2 Duo processors: the TravelMate 6460 and TravelMate 6410. Acer defines these two new notebook series as Desktop Replacement following a new communication and marketing strategy that associates different user profiles – Home/Private Users, Professional and Small Business Solutions, Small and Medium Companies and Enterprises – with specific product ranges. Specifically, the notebook range has been divided into four functional groups – Desktop Replacement, Mobility at Work, Small Office Home Office solutions, and Home Entertainment that address the specific needs of each target group.

By definition, the user profile also incorporates all associated computing requirements and describes the functions, roles and applications the system is expected to perform. By dividing its extensive notebook range into four functional groups Acer is now in a far better position to address each user profile. The user profiles and notebook functional groups complement each other by offering clear definitions of the user's expectations and helps guide them towards the suitable solution for their individual needs.

The new Acer Desktop Replacement notebooks are powered with Intel's newest Core 2 Duo processor and are targeted towards corporate and medium-sized companies who need to replace their networked/managed corporate desktops with stylish, compact and reliable notebooks that offer all the power, security and flexibility of a desktop PC. As these users have different mobility needs, the desktop replacement function group also includes ultra-portable platforms.

The four new notebooks feature Intel's latest CPU onboard. On selected models, the new CPU doubles the second level cache memory from 2 to 4MB. Increased cache size provides maximum productivity to the professional users and speeds up every operation.

Designed for in-office and outbound business use, the TravelMate 6460 and TravelMate 6410 virtually delivers double the performance thanks to Intel's dual-core architecture. Increased reliability and productivity are guaranteed by dual-channel DDR2 memory and the S-ATA 5400RPM Hard Drive protected with Acer Disk Anti-Shock Protection (DASP+) Technology.

Features:
• Acer Gravisense technology that detects sudden motion changes of notebook (such as a fall) and automatically retracts the disk heads to avoid surface scratching.
• Anti Theft technology that warns the user when the system is being moved and
• Acer Disk Anti-Shock Protection technology preventing Hard Disk shocks and guaranteeing unprecedented levels of active physical security.

Added security comes via the Trusted Platform Module, a utility for secure generation and management of personal cryptographic keys that enable users to add digital signature to files, to encrypt and decrypt crucial documents, also verifying the encryption. The encryption key is strictly personal: its secrecy provides security. In addition, the TravelMate 6460 series protects against unauthorized access through a combination of the fingerprint reader and the Acer SmartCard Security Solution with integrated Acer Platinum Secret security software to provide one-click encryption/decryption features. For connectivity, both platforms offer all the freedom users need to stay connected in any environment thanks to flexible connectivity options, ranging from wireless (WLAN and WPAN), wired (Gigabit Ethernet card) or traditional connectivity (modem). To exploit the potential of contemporary VoIP communication, the TravelMate 6460 sports Acer Video Conference technology featuring Voice and Video over IP (VVoIP) support via the LCD panel-mounted Acer OrbiCam and the optional Acer Bluetooth VoIP phone.

These versatile systems easily follow differing users' needs. When extra storage is required on the go, the TravelMate 6460 series quickly change configuration through the hot-swappable Acer MediaBay modules (either additional hard disk drive up to 160 GB or a DVD Super multi double layer drive). Once back in the office, great expandability comes thanks to Acer ezDock II/II+, Acer's new bottom-based docking solution that integrates with existing and next-generation peripherals.

For audio and video, the new TravelMate series come with 15.4" wide LCD display either managed by ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 graphics chipset or by Intel's Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950. In addition, the DVI-D connectivity provides faster and higher-quality images for high-definition entertainment on external monitors. Sound reproduction is more realistic and engaging thanks to the integrated built-in Acer 3DSonic (1.5 W) stereo speakers.

Acer has equipped all its notebook series with a suite of software utilities – Acer Empowering Technology – designed to provide users with rapid access to the most advanced management and setting functions in no more than three mouse-clicks. For example, eDataSecurity Management provides superior security and protection of crucial data by creating a folder that automatically encrypts confidential files, while eRecovery management allows secure back-up of Hard Disk, OS and personal files. ePerformance management provides rapid disk and speed optimization along with disk fragmentation functions, while eSettings management allows intelligent system management. Acer Empowering Technology is launched though the Empowering Key and provides a set of smart tools designed to make it easy to fully exploit the system's technological power: even the most complex functions are just three clicks away.

The TravelMate 6460 and TravelMate 6410 notebook series are all Windows Vista Capable and come with Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition. Additional installed software includes Acer Empowering Technology, Adobe Reader, Norton AntiVirus, CyberLink Power Producer, NTI CD-Maker. All Acer notebooks come with a standard one year warranty, which can be extended to three years with the Acer Advantage service, which also covers accidental damage to the notebook.
