WinSystems Ships EBC-855-G Single Board Computer

WinSystems has announced their EBC-855-G, an EBX-compatible, Intel 1GHz ultra low-power, Celeron (Dothan core) single board computer (SBC). It operates over an industrial temperature range of -40° to +70°Celsius. Target applications include MIL/COTS, industrial automation, medical/diagnostic equipment, communications, security, test and measurement, and outdoor transaction terminals. The EBC-855-G is a full-featured SBC with a variety of on-board peripherals which eliminate the need for additional standard I/O peripheral cards. It is based on the Intel's 855GME chipset with the ICH4 communications controller and integrated Extreme Graphics 2 video 3D controller.

The EBC-855-G features an Intel 1 GHz Celeron-M. Both CPU and system controller are supplied from Intel's Embedded Architecture Division for long-term availability. It supports a maximum of 1GB of industry-standard PC2700 SDRAM, up to 8GB of CompactFlash plus support for hard and floppy disk drives. The EBC-855-G offers a full set of I/O interfaces including a 10/100BaseT Ethernet port (with remote boot capability); VGA and dual channel LVDS flat panel video, a miniPCI connector that supports an optional 802.11 wireless networking module, four USB 2.0 ports, four serial COM ports, AC97 audio (5.1 codec), LPT and a PS/2 port for keyboard and mouse. A software programmable 48-line digital I/O controller is onboard that provides input, output or output with readback for each I/O line. The board also is populated with both PC/104 and PC/104-Plus interface connectors for support of additional off-the-shelf or user-designed specialty I/O modules.

Since the EBC-855-G architecture is PC compatible, it supports Windows CE and XP embedded, Linux, and a vast software development tool set including device drivers and libraries. It also supports other real time operating systems such as QNX and VxWorks. The EBC-855-G uses the Phoenix Trusted core BIOS. It supports advanced features such as custom splash screen, APM 1.2 and ACPI 1.0b power management modes, PXE boot and multi-language support. The BIOS also supports legacy operation of a USB keyboard and mouse, as well as booting from a USB floppy disk, USB keys, and other USB-connected mass storage devices.

The EBC-855-G measures 5.75" x 8.0" (146mm x 203mm) and is an EBX-compatible platform. The EBC-855-G requires only +5 volts and typically draws 2.1 Amps (typical) with 1 Gigabyte of DDR SDRAM installed. The board is RoHS compliant.
