Security Alert: New Endpoint Security Threat - USBDumper - Found

Centennial Software has issued a security alert regarding a new endpoint security threat called USBDumper. This hacking tool is designed to silently copy files off any USB flash drive connected to a PC and makes an image of the drive enabling someone with malicious intent to steal data or even use recovery tools to retrieve deleted material. In order to combat this and related threats, Centennial is offering a free 30-day trial of its security software, DeviceWall.

DeviceWall enables organizations to centrally manage and protect networks from the threats associated with data theft and portable storage devices (iPods, USB sticks, cell phones, etc.) by managing the connection of these devices to company PCs and encrypting data in transit. DeviceWall prevents against threats like USBDumper by encrypting data on flash drives, thereby rendering useless any stolen data and preventing protected machines from recognizing flash drives thus providing assurance to mobile workers.
