TELUS Deploys LG 490 Fastap Phone

Digit Wireless has announced that LG Electronics is releasing their second Fastap alphanumeric phone in Canada - the LG 490 through TELUS. After the success and popularity of TELUS' first deployment of the Fastap LG6190, the wireless operator has launched its second Fastap phone to meet its growing subscriber demand for simple to use mobile devices. Earlier this August, LG launched a similar phone in the United States, the LG AX490 Fastap phone being marketed and sold through Alltel Wireless.

The LG 490 is a combination of technology and functionality for sociable people who want to stay in touch with their network of friends and family. The Fastap keypad with one-touch access to each letter and number is suited for text and picture messaging, Instant Messaging and mobile email. With Fastap, TELUS mobile consumers will benefit through an acceleration and simplicity of every aspect of the mobile user experience.

Fastap is the one-touch keypad technology that can enable easier discovery, access and use of mobile applications and services through easier text entry and/or enhanced access-control functionality. Fastap in its various implementations (Full Alphanumeric or Press-To-Anything) can drive vastly improved functionality and usability of messaging, imaging, music, video and converged device phone features. Fastap in its alphanumeric implementation has been proven to drive sustained increases in text messaging and data ARPU. The end result is greater revenue for mobile operators because mobile consumers just flat out use their phone more.

Fastap is truly a global technology platform which can be incorporated into any device based on the design flexibility and easy manufacturability of the keypad. In its full alphanumeric format Fastap can be mapped to any language for mobile subscribers around the globe. Other Fastap alphanumeric features on the LG 490 include letter dialing (1-800-OCANADA) and one-touch access to key mobile services and phone features (Press "M" for messaging, "W" for Wireless Web, "B" for Bluetooth, "C" for calculator).

For the first time ever TELUS will bring mobile email and instant messaging to savvy mobile consumers on a mainstream form factor flip phone with a full alphanumeric keypad. In conjunction with the launch of LG 490, TELUS will make available their My Email service and MSN Messenger. With My Email, clients will be able to access their Hotmail account while on-the-go, allowing them to read, reply, write and forward emails anytime, anywhere. My Email, powered by OZ Communications, will be available for download to the LG 490 under the Email section of the handset's Messaging menu.

The LG 490 also supports TELUS SPARK entertainment and information services such as Wireless Web Browsing, downloadable games, and of course text and picture messaging.
