SANAKO Launches Study Software Modules

SANAKO has launched the first of a series of plug-in modules that will enhance teaching and learning effectiveness in its Study software line. SANAKO Study Examination Module and SANAKO Study Video Streaming Module introduce specialized functions to assist teachers in modernizing and streamlining certain teaching activities.

Video-based activities such as listening comprehension in language teaching allow students to observe spoken language in a real usage situation and are an effective way to learn. Video material can also provide many opportunities for stimulating learning in any subject. Analog video transfer solutions are generally expensive and require complex cabling solutions. On the other hand, digital video transfer solutions have traditionally required expensive server-based solutions and configuration and it has not been easy to integrate them into learning.

The Study Video Streaming Module features a PC-based server that allows teachers to stream video content directly to an entire IT classroom through the network, eliminating the need for extra cabling. The module is easily integrated into SANAKO Study 500 cross-curricular teaching software, as well as SANAKO Study 1200 and SANAKO Lab 300 language teaching solutions. What's more, content streamed from analog sources can be saved to the server once it has been played, making it faster and easier to launch it the next time it is used; and gradually making the old physical video libraries obsolete.

Video may be transferred to students from analog sources such as DVD or VHS players or even satellite receivers - offering teachers a number of options for enhancing their teaching with video material. Teachers can even use a video camera to send images of people using sign language directly to students, making the Video Streaming Module a valuable addition for sign language teaching programs.

The Video Streaming Module can be controlled from the Study software or via a user-friendly Web-Interface, which is easy to master. As the content is streamed using MPEG technology the streamed content can be viewed with SANAKO Media Assistant, the SANAKO Study Player and with other standard media players such as Quicktime.

The Sanako Examination Module answers a growing demand for more intensive and accurate assessment of student progress. For teachers, testing is an important aspect of continuous student evaluation, and using this module couldn't be easier – the application guides the user through the process of exam creation, and is flexible enough to allow teachers to vary the type of questions used in tests.

Teachers can design any kind of question to test a particular skill or student ability, using the helpful prompts and instructions in the application - multiple choice, free response and more. Teachers may even set the time, outline instructions for completing exams and preview them before administering the tests. Once the teacher is satisfied with the design, launching the exam for students is only a click away.

The Examination Module provides important follow-up by generating test results in both the teacher and student interface, allowing students to receive immediate feedback on their performance. The teacher may instead choose not to show students their results immediately. The module also allows teachers to save exams for future use.

Both modules can be launched from the Study teaching software, conveniently expanding the range of teaching activities that can be launched from the same interface.
