Mobile Digital Rights Management Patent Issued to July Systems

July Systems has announced the U.S. Patents and Trademarks Office has issued the company a patent in the area of mobile content and applications Digital Rights Management. The patent, "Application Rights Management in a Mobile Environment" (US Patent 7089594) recognizes July's unique DRM technology enabling mobile operators and content retailers to overcome today's mobile environment limitations to apply - in real time and without application rewrites - a wide range of pricing models, promotions and purchasing options for mobile video, games, music and more. This provides consumers with more choices and makes it easier for them to buy and enjoy mobile content – key factors in the mass adoption of mobile data services.

With the flexibility provided by July's DRM technology, mobile operators and retailers can cater to consumers with the same merchandizing options available in online and real-world retailing experiences. The technology also gives operators and retailers the power to respond in real time to fluctuations in market demand and new opportunities.

July's DRM technology effectively manages and safeguards digital rights of retailer content while allowing retailers to apply different pricing and merchandizing models including try-before-you-buy, subscription, rental, pay-per-use, and advertising-sponsored purchase, as well as community building features such as gifting and referrals. They can also execute real-time changes in price points, pricing models and promotions on an on-going basis to drive increased sales. Most importantly, they can do all this without having to make any changes to the content itself, making this a truly scalable and powerful mobile retailing solution.
