New Elmo SUV-CAM Pocket-Sized MPEG4 Recording System

New pocket-sized video and audio recording system utilizing solid state recording media combines ELMO microcamera technology, an MPEG4 digital recorder and a built-in color TFT 2.2-inch LCD monitor. The compact camera head (3.3"long by .7" dia.) and recorder/monitor body (3.54" x 2.2" x .9") and 0.6lb weight make it usable as a handheld or body-worn surveillance, evidence-gathering and school bus security device. Law enforcement and security personnel can operate the unit while on foot patrol, riding a motorcycle or bicycle, or in a vehicle.

The heart of the system is a microcamera head with a high quality 3.8 mm, F2.0 lens. The ?-inch color CCD has 2:1 interlaced scanning system with an effective pixel number of 752 x 582. With 480 TVL (H) and 350 TVL (V) resolution and a S/N ratio of >48dB, it provides detailed images on the high-resolution monitor screen or for recording in illumination as low as 2 lx. The lightweight camera can be positioned to capture a variety of P.O.V. images. User-selected adjustments through the recorder's on-screen menus manage such functions as frame rate, resolution, camera and display brightness, contrast and playback speed. One-touch simplified recording permits hands-free operation. The fully immersible camera head is waterproof up to 130ft. and is connected to the monitor/recorder by cable available in 2.53 ft. or 4.92 ft. lengths.

MPEG4 encoding delivers fully synchronized audio and video recording with video resolution up to DVD quality (D1 resolution) at 30fps, storing files of up to 2GB on optional SD cards. This eliminates the problem of hard-drive storage media in handheld and body-worn video recorders. Audio is captured by the built-in mono microphone or a user supplied external mic. The unit has connections for an AC adapter, earphone, AV output and a USB2.0 port. Its battery capacity provides 2 hours of recording at 30fps and 3 hours of playback of clear, detailed images recorded at speeds of 30, 15 or 1fps. Resolution settings from 720x480, 640 x 480, 320 x 240 or 160 x 120 can be selected. Offers both NTSC or PAL compatible video outputs.
