Sony Delays Its Blue-ray Player

Sony says it is pushing back the launch of its first Blu-ray stand-alone player. The home electronics company has been one of the biggest developers and marketers of the Blu-ray high definition format, but has had problems with meeting launch targets fort the technology. It is now aiming for a mid-August release for the BDP-S1 player. It has already had to delay the launch of its next generation games console the PlayStation 3 as a result of problems caused by the inclusion of a Blu-ray drive in the machine.

Earlier this year, Samsung also had to delay the launch of the first Blu-ray Disc player in the US due to the need for further testing. Its machine is now slated for release on June 25th, but was originally scheduled for release on May 23rd.
