RAD Data Communications Joins the IP Alliance

iDirect Technologies, which designs and manufactures a two-way broadband IP access over satellite solution and distributes it through a worldwide network of service providers and network operators, has admitted RAD Data Communications as an application partner in its IP Alliance.

IP Alliance Application Partners are network software and equipment developers and manufacturers that are committed to delivering solutions to the enterprise community. iDirect Technologies works closely with Alliance members to promote the interoperability of its technology with networking companies to extend full turnkey enterprise class solutions to locations where terrestrial connections are unavailable, take too long to implement or are too costly.

The RAD products that have been declared interoperable with IP-over-satellite applications are the Vmux-400 A-bis and A-ter GSM optimization gateway and the Vmux-2100 voice trunking gateway.

The Vmux-400 improves mobile network resources by enabling up to 3:1 bandwidth optimization, as well as a 2:1 reduction in the number of E1 ports required. RAD's Vmux-2100 voice trunking gateway provides A (BSC-to-MSC) interface and E (MSC-to-MSC/PSTN) interface optimization, offering compression rates of up to 16:1. Both products are adapted to function in a terrestrial, satellite or microwave environment over Ethernet/IP/MPLS packet-switched networks, or TDM-based transport. Used together, RAD's Vmux solutions significantly reduce operating expenses (Opex) across the entire backhaul pathway while enabling cellular operators to expand their network infrastructure and introduce new services without incurring additional leased line costs.
