European Commissioner To Visit Communicasia

Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Information Society and Media is the latest VIP to join Asia's biggest ever influential gathering of ICT professionals: CommunicAsia, which takes place in Singapore from 20th-23rdJune.

Mrs Reding's mission is to support Europe's strategy for sustainable economic growth and jobs by putting in place policies and research priorities that promote the availability of a world-class communications infrastructure and services to all businesses and citizens throughout Europe. She will be in Singapore to attend the Euro Southeast Asia 2006 Information & Communication Technologies Forum (EUSEA 2006), which is financed by the European Commission and organised with the support of the association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Commissioner Reding is the most senior figure from the European Commission yet to visit CommunicAsia, which comprises three main events – CommunicAsia, BroadcastAsia and EnterpriseIT.

The Euro Southeast Asia 2006 Information & Communication Technologies Forum is aimed at opening business platforms between key stakeholders from Europe and Southeast Asia. It is responsible for promoting a policy and regulatory dialogue on ICT; reinforcing the realisation of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) objectives in Southeast Asia; developing ICT research co-operation projects between Europe and Southeast Asia; and training participants through ICT workshops and hands-on courses. Mrs Viviane Reding is performing the official opening ceremony for EUSEA.

At the show, some of the key technologies addressed include interactive and mobile entertainment, IPTV, 3G, VoIP, NGN, WiMAX, information security and embedded technologies. The companies behind them include Huawei, ZTE, NTT Docomo, LG, Samsung and Siemens, among many others.
