Samsung's 16X DVD Rewritable Drive With 8X Dual Speed Recording

Samsung Electronics Ltd. announces its fastest dual layered DVD recorder. The new SH-W162L is a unique LightScribe, enabling 16X DVD re-writeable drive with 8X dual speed recording.

LightScribe technology is embedded in the DVD drive and lets users engrave labels, photos, and designs right onto the CD and DVD discs with no hassle at all. The result is a professional look with no worries about labels falling off or sloppy marker smudges. The drive's label making software is pre-loaded with an array of designs and labels for users who choose not to create their own label.

In addition to the LightScribe technology, the SH-W162L offers a super-fast 8X dual-layer speed recording and storage of up to 8.5GBs of data. This enhanced speed cuts down burning times significantly. A file that would have taken 30 minutes to back up, now just takes 13 minutes. This is particularly helpful for users who conduct vast amounts of video or data backup. The 8X dual layer speed also allows users to input large amounts of data, such as video, photos or information from a database, onto a DVD at a much faster rate compared with previous Samsung models.

The SH-W162L is easy and simple to use. Users record their preferred data - either music, photos, or text - remove the disc after burning is complete, turn it over and the SH-W162L imprints the label, design, or photo onto the disc. This one-of-a-kind technology focuses light energy onto a thin dye coating to produce labels. Only LightScribe-ready CDs and DVDs can be inscribed by drives with LightScribe technology.

The SH-W162L offers users the benefit of many advanced technologies including: Silent Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and Automatic Ball Balancing System (ABS) to maximize performance and lower the volume of in use clatter when recording or reading at top speeds; Speed Adjustment Technology, to match the speed to the functionality of the disc; Tilt Actuator Compensation (TAC) for preferred writing condition when interacting with the objective lens; and Double Optimum Power Control, which balances the laser power on the sides of the disc for a better writing performance. Buffer Under Run Error is avoided by the power save attribute.

The SH-W162L supports the recording of DVD+R media at 16X, DVD-R at 16X, DVD+RW at 8X and double layer DVD+R at 8X.
