ACS has been appointed a contract of £1.512 billion for the construction of the new high-speed station and the expansion of the Euston transport interchange in central London

ACS Group, through its subsidiary Dragados and in Joint Venture with Mace has been notify of the award decision of the HS2 Euston Station contract in central London (United Kingdom) by the High Speed Two Limited (HS2 Ltd.). The £1.5bn management contract consists in the design, construction, commissioning and handover of the eleven new platforms, including Over Site Development (OSD) enabling works; and the provision of an enlarged ticket hall and enhancement of the existing Euston London Underground (LU) station and connection to Euston Square London Underground (LU) station.

Dragados is the only Spanish construction company awarded with the large packages of civil works and stations.

HS2 phase 1 is the planned high-speed railway in the United Kingdom connecting directly to London with Birmingham, the East Midlands, Leeds and Manchester and it will link more than 25 station. This is the most recent milestone in the effort to bring the new high-speed terminal station to London and as the government said the “biggest station-building programme since
Victorian era”.

The existing Euston station is the sixth busiest railway station in Britain and was designed in 1963 to manage 20 million people a year, but in 2018 has been handling over 87 million people a year between London Underground and rail service.

The construction of the new high-speed Euston Station is expected to begin with the Stage A at the end of 2019 with a completion by early 2026, and the second part of the project, Stage B1, will be completed in 2033. Each construction stage comprises of:

STAGE A:

a. six new high-speed platforms with 450 m long and new concourse hall over the platform level. Keeping 16 of the 18 current platforms of the conventional train station (Network Rail) in service.

b. remodelling and relocating of the Euston intermodal (bus, cycle and taxi) interchange facilities; highways, public realm and pedestrian connectivity to the surrounding area;

c. new ticket hall passageways and tunnels with associated London Underground gate lines and staff facilities and additional platform access via new escalators and step free access to Northern line Bank branch platforms (east end) and Victoria line platforms (east end) and a connection to the new ticket hall;

d. subsurface passenger link between Euston Square LUL station, Euston HS2 station and Euston LUL station, providing an interchange hub.

STAGE B1:

a. provision of a further five HS2 platforms by 2033 while retaining thirteen platforms in the existing Euston NR station;

b. relocation of the bus stops, cycling and cycle hire provision;

c. new platform access and lifts to the Northern Line Charing Cross Branch platforms and extension of Stage A ticket hall;
