Eurovia wins two contracts to develop major corridors in North Carolina (United States)

22 OCTOBER 2018 - 8:30 AM - NEW CONTRACTS - UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

• 26 km of express lanes on the I-485 in Charlotte, North Carolina’s main city
• 4 km of express lanes on the R-2247EB in Winston Salem, North Carolina
• Total value: €415 million

Eurovia, the VINCI subsidiary specialising in transport infrastructure and urban development, has won two design-build contracts to develop two major corridors in North Carolina. The two projects, which have a combined value of €415 million (US $480 million), are scheduled for delivery in 2022.

In Charlotte, on the I-485, the work will consist in adding an express toll lane in each direction between the I-77 and I-74 (about 26 km) and an additional free HOV (high-occupancy vehicle) lane. These lanes will improve traffic conditions along a corridor used by 146, 000 vehicles a day. This project includes 765, 000 m3 of earthworks, the construction of 13 bridges and the laying of 700, 000 tonnes of asphalt.

In Winston-Salem (in Forsyth County), the work will involve construction of an interchange over about 4 km on the northern ring-road, near Route 52, which will be widened to six lanes. The project will be optimised to take up less space and reduce the earthworks by more than 1 million m3. It includes 1.5 million m3 of earthworks, the construction of 13 bridges and the laying of 100, 000 tonnes of asphalt.

Eurovia has substantial operations in the southeastern part of the United States via its subsidiaries Hubbard Construction and Blythe Construction, especially in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. In the United States, the company generated €489 million in revenue in 2017.
