BAM wins contract for academic laboratory and research centre in Basel

Bunnik, the Netherlands, 18 September 2018 – ETH Zürich (the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) has awarded BAM the contract for the construction of its new BSS laboratory and research centre (Biosystems Science) on the Schällemätteli campus in Basel. The contract value is more than €90 million. Construction works by a joint venture between BAM Swiss and BAM Deutschland have started recently and BAM expects to complete this project in the autumn of 2021.

Designed by Nickl & Partner Architekten Schweiz AG, the project includes the construction of laboratories, offices and classrooms, as well as some clean rooms and a cafeteria. The architectural centrepiece of the project is the impressive glazed atrium. The BSS centre has a total floor area of approximately 37, 500 sq m, divided over nine floors with an additional technical level on the roof.

In 2016, BAM Swiss successfully completed the HWO buildings with 498 shared flats and individual studios for students on ETH’s Zürich campus.
