Offenbach/Germany, February 2018 --- At StocExpo Europe, the largest international event for the tank terminal industry, taking place from March 20 – 22, Keller EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America), a division of Keller Group plc, will present a comprehensive overview of the company’s expertise as a versatile and proven geotechnical solution provider for everything to do with tank farm foundations at booth J25. In addition Bertrand Stoehr, Senior Key Accounts and Major Projects Manager at Keller Holding, will talk about “How to improve tank foundations” during session six of the associated conference, on Thursday, March 22nd. Using case histories of Keller’s recent tank farm projects, his presentation will cover foundations for tank farms using custom-designed optimized solutions including the latest technical developments for reliable tank foundations on soft soils.

Visitors to the Keller booth will find a multitude of examples on how the company has for years been developing and using specialist techniques for the foundations of heavy structures in soft soils, such as oil storage tanks in swampy coastal areas. The company shows how its custom-made ground improvement techniques can help to optimize costs and construction time all over the world, and how these advanced technologies are applicable to deep soil treatments to avoid any future expensive remediation operations.

Today, tank farm locations are selected based on logistical as well as operational and productivity criteria without taking account of local ground characteristics and its suitability. This poses a large variety of geotechnical challenges related to tank farm foundations, ranging from ensuring serviceability by limiting ground settlement to a specified limit value to providing sufficient stability of tanks for static loads as well as dynamic loads like earth quakes including the prevention of liquefaction. The services also include remediation of existing tanks with excessive settlements and insufficient stability as well as encapsulating and immobilizing contaminants.

As Bertrand Stoehr comments: “Keller is a versatile and proven geotechnical solution provider for this kind of tasks. Decades of experience in design and soil mechanics are the bedrock for developing comprehensive, customer specific solutions to the numerous challenges included in constructing foundations. By combining project specific technology selection from our vast range of unique in-house developed toolbox of methods covering ground improvement, pile foundations, and grouting techniques, we can offer Keller’s customers a perfect and at the same time cost efficient solution for every challenge even under adverse site constraints.”

“And moreover”, Stoehr adds, “Keller’s subsidiary company GeTec, which specialises in providing instrumentation and monitoring solutions for a wide range of applications, can provide real time remote monitoring of foundations and tanks during operation.”
