Opening ISH 2017 with Hessian Minister of Economics, Tarek Al-Wazir and Mayor of the City of Frankfurt, Peter Feldmann

Economically strong sector: house and building-services technology generates revenues of over € 55 billion

The world’s leading fair banks on growing internationality in 2017

2, 482 exhibitors, including all market and technology leaders from home and abroad, will launch their new products onto the world market at ISH 2017 in Frankfurt am Main from 14 to 18 March 2017. In this connection, ISH plays a leading international role because it is the undisputed meeting place for companies from all over the world – 65 percent of exhibitors and 39 percent of visitors come from outside Germany. Under this year’s motto, ‘Water. Energy. Life.’, the world’s biggest trade fair for the combination of water and energy will focus on the importance of these factors for human life.
Frankfurt’s Mayor Feldmann said, “Today, in an age of global political challenges in terms of energy and climate, the ISH trade fair is a catalyser and source of impulses for efficient and sustainable building-services technology. The products and solutions presented at ISH help save energy, make buildings smarter and, therefore, achieve our climate-protection goals.” Seconding this, Minister for Economics, Energy, Transport and State Development of the State of Hesse, Tarek Al-Wazir, opened ISH – The World’s Leading Trade Fair for The Bathroom Experience, Building Services, Energy, Air Conditioning Technology and Renewable Energies – in Frankfurt am Main on 14 March 2017. The other speakers at the official opening ceremony were the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economics of the Republic of Turkey, Ibrahim Senel, and the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Messe Frankfurt, Wolfgang Marzin. The presence of these high-ranking politicians underscores the significance of the fair for important social and economic issues. Thus, Tarek Al-Wazir said, “With its wide range of future-oriented building-services technology, ISH provides solutions for the important issues of our time because we will only be able to achieve the aims of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris, which include limiting global warming to significantly less than 2 degrees Celsius and the complete transition to renewable energy generation, with new, improved, efficient and economic solutions”.
Turkey is this year’s ISH Partner Country and it is making a special presentation in Galleria 0. The decision to nominate Turkey as the Partner Country of ISH 2017 was taken unanimously by the organiser, Messe Frankfurt, and the conceptual partners of the world’s leading trade fair at the end of June 2015. “With this decision, we have taken account of the increasing importance of Turkey at ISH on both the visitor and exhibitor sides”, says Wolfgang Marzin. Turkey is also the third‑biggest exhibition nation after Germany and Italy. 140 Turkish companies are making presentations at ISH 2017, which represents growth of 35 percent compared to the previous edition of the fair.
Marzin also emphasises the importance of trade fairs as neutral business platforms: “Messe Frankfurt has been holding fairs for 777 years. We are present where our customers and sectors need room to enter into discussions with potential business partners. Fairs are the ideal venue for this.”
House and building-services technology generates revenues of over € 55 billion
Industrial production by German house and building-services technology companies in the sanitation, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning sector developed positively in 2016. This is the result of a study by the ‘ifo’ Institute commissioned by Messe Frankfurt, the Association of the German Heating Industry (BDH), the Association of the German Sanitation Industry (Vereinigung der Deutschen Sanitärwirtschaft e.V. – VDS) and the German Building Services Technology Association (VdZ Spitzenverband der Gebäudetechnik).
Overall, the revenues of the house and building-services technology sector rose in 2016. The industry, wholesale trade and installation trade rang up consolidated annual sales of € 55.65 billion excluding VAT (2015: € 53.84 billion). The corresponding domestic turnover amounted to € 45.7 billion. Thus, the sector continued the stable upswing of recent years.
Federal Ministers Zypries and Hendricks the patrons of parts of the complementary programme of events
Brigitte Zypries, Federal Minister of Economics and Energy, is the patron of the ISH Technology and Energy Forum, which is organised by Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with the Association of the German Heating Industry (BDH) and other partners from the energy business and the industry. Under the heading, ‘We have the solutions’, everything at the forum will revolve around modern and highly efficient heating technology, ‘made in Germany’.
Minister of the Environment Hendricks is the patron of the ‘Bathroom Comfort for Generations’ product award, which is being given for the third time at ISH by the German Sanitation, Heating and Air-Conditioning Association (Zentralverband Sanitär Heizung Klima – ZVSHK) ISH. The competition is aimed at manufacturers and wholesalers in the sanitation sector. The products entered should correspond with the ‘Design for all’ concept in terms of both planning and design. The Product Award of the Sanitation Installation Trade will be presented at the ZVSHK stand in Hall 8.0 at 11.00 hrs on 16 March.
With the BMWi ‘Innovation made in Germany’ area, Messe Frankfurt and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie – BMWi) give young, innovative German companies the chance to exhibit at ISH. The aim of this programme is to support the export of new products and processes, and to make it easier for companies to gain a foothold in the market. Within the framework of this initiative, 13 young companies are making presentations in Halls 5.1 and 10.3.
Additionally, many other complementary-programme events take up the latest developments in the sector. Thus, expert lectures with best‑practice examples, special exhibitions, panel discussions, competitions and tours give visitors the opportunity to gather information, hold discussions and make new contacts.
