Bouygues Construction to construct the future operations centre in Aulnay-sous-Bois
The Société du Grand Paris (SGP) has awarded a contract worth €181 million (Group share: €141 million) to a consortium led by Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France Ouvrages Publics and Brézillon, both subsidiaries of Bouygues Construction, for the construction of the operations centre for Lines 16 and 17 of the Grand Paris Express. The facility will be situated in the towns of Aulnay-sous-Bois and Gonesse, over the border between the departments of Seine-Saint-Denis and Val d'Oise.
The future operations centre, located in the northwest sector of a 20-hectare site formerly used by the PSA group in Aulnay-sous-Bois, will join up with Line 16 by a tunnel roughly 1.5 kilometres long and with Line 17 by a viaduct roughly 1 kilometre long.
The facility will be the nerve centre of two future Grand Paris Express lines, grouping together three functions in a single location:
• A centralised control room, responsible for collecting all data relating to Lines 16 and 17 in real time, coordinating train movements, and monitoring and regulating traffic.
• A maintenance and sidings site, where rolling stock can be delivered, overhauled, maintained, repaired and parked.
An infrastructure maintenance site, which will guarantee the operating condition of metro equipment (tracks, engineering structures, energy distribution, etc.).
In all, eleven buildings will be constructed simultaneously within 32 months, requiring the installation of 5,400 tonnes of structural steelwork. Designed by the Groupe-6 architecture firm and Setec consulting engineers, some of the buildings will have extraordinary dimensions owing to the nature of the functions they house: the infrastructure maintenance site will be 540 metres long and 23 metres tall, for instance.
The works will begin in the summer of 2020, with delivery scheduled for early 2024, and will involve some 400 employees working onsite during peak periods.
