SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins wins prestigious HKILA Landscape Award 2018

Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, won the Silver Award for the Gamuda Cove masterplan project, in the Landscape Planning & Master Planning category of the HKILA Landscape Award 2018. The HKILA Awards seek to promote excellence in landscape planning, design, management and research, to recognise outstanding achievements by landscape architects.

Christian Dierckxsens, Senior Associate Director and Head of the landscape architecture practice at SNC-Lavalin's Atkins in Asia Pacific, said: "I'm extremely delighted that our project was recognised by the leading award of the industry. We are proud that the Gamuda Cove masterplan project created a unique world-class destination that addresses our client's objectives and fully celebrates the natural assets of the site in a responsible and sustainable way."

The 658 hectares Gamuda Cove masterplan is a new mixed-use development. Located adjacent to the Paya Indah wetland park in Malaysia – an upcoming eco-tourism destination – the unique site location opens various opportunities for an eco-themed development. To emphasise on the concept of "Living with Nature", Atkins created a landscape masterplan with interconnected open spaces and a selective planting palette of native species. The interfaces of the project boundaries with the wetland are protected to ensure that the existing ecological values are sustained.

Working closely with the client's team, local water engineers and planners has strengthened the feasibility and facilitated the development throughout the complex planning submissions and statutory requirements of the project.

The first phase of the project is currently under construction and an official launch is expected in early 2019.
