Strabag awarded road construction contracts in Poland

The publicly listed construction group Strabag, via its Polish subsidiaries, has been awarded two contracts totalling PLN 484 million (approx. € 108 million) from Poland's General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA). As part of the overall works on the S17 between Warsaw and Garwolin, Strabag will design and build a 15.2 km long section from the Lubelska junction near Warsaw to Kołbiel, including four junctions, for PLN 301 million. The second contract, with a value of PLN 183 million, comprises the design and construction of an 8.7 km long bypass road near Kołbiel.

Less traffic through towns and on local roads
The S17, which forms part of European Road E372, will link the city of Garwolin with Warsaw. This will reduce the travel time to the Polish capital and lower the volume of traffic in the surrounding communities. The construction works, which will last until the year 2019, will include not only the two-to-three-lane cement highway but also rest areas, wildlife crossings and drainage water treatment systems as well as accompanying footpaths and bicycle trails.

"The S17 represents a further improvement to the traffic link between Warsaw and the Lublin Region. A further aim is to divert traffic away from residential areas in order to improve the quality of life for the local population", says Thomas Birtel, CEO of Strabag SE.
