€70 million order for modernization of Messe Essen exhibition grounds

On behalf of Messe Essen, engineering and services group Bilfinger will modernize large sections of the city's exhibition grounds. The contract was signed last week. The total investment amounts to approximately €90 million with Bilfinger accounting for a construction volume of about €70 million. This includes, for the most part, demolition of the existing two-storey halls as well as the rehabilitation and modernization of the remaining exhibition halls.

The exhibition halls will be built on a turnkey basis and will include ancillary areas such as storage, technology and office space as well as social areas. In addition, a modern and attractive new foyer with 2,000 square meters of floor space will also be built. The existing building structure in the ground floor of Exhibition Hall East will be expanded into a conference area and the existing office space will be modernized. A total of about 45,000 square meters of exhibition space will be built, converted or modernized. At the same time, ongoing exhibition operations must continue unhindered, which requires detailed planning of the construction process and temporary building solutions.

With an exhibition space of more than 110,000 square meters, Essen is among the top ten exhibition locations in Germany and stands out with a range of events which attract large numbers of visitors. The extensive modernization will secure the future sustainability of the exhibition location.
