First groundbreaking for the “Intelligent Quarters” at HafenCity Hamburg

Construction start for the "Intelligent Quarters" (IQ): Dr. Peter Tschentscher (SPD), Finance Senator of Hamburg, broke ground for the new major project in the heart of HafenCity Hamburg on Thursday (March 26, 2015). ECE and STRABAG Real Estate will jointly construct a building complex on the banks of the Elbe for 150 million euros until summer 2017. It is a balanced mixed-use building ensemble for living, working, and leisure on a gross floor area (GFA) of 32,000 m². The quarter will feature a landmark 70-meter office tower with 18 stories at the waterfront with a large roof terrace and a fascinating panoramic view overlooking Hamburg. The building ensemble consists of the tower with a GFA of approximately 16,000 m², a seven-story office building with a GFA of 7,800 m², and a residential building with a GFA of 8,400 m². All 46 condominiums will have either have a magnificent view overlooking the Elbe or the harbor.

The IQ is constructed next to HafenCity University and is well-connected to public transport by subway line 4. An underground parking garage will provide approximately 390 parking spaces. A central square near the waterfront, restaurants, cafés, and shops on the ground floors of the buildings add to the sophisticated architectural and urban quality of this extraordinary place.
