Strabag subsidiary Züblin building further section of A 100 motorway in Berlin

Ed. Züblin AG, a subsidiary of publicly listed construction group Strabag SE, has been awarded the contract to build Construction Section 16, Contract Section 4, of the urban A 100 motorway in Berlin by the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development and the Environment. This follows the award for Contract Section 2/3, which in 2014 also went to Züblin. The contract for the new section between km 21+815 and km 22+465 amounts to about € 44 million.

Project execution is in the hands of an internal consortium consisting of Ed. Züblin AG, Business Unit Civil Engineering and Infrastructure, and Züblin Spezialtiefbau GmbH, Business Unit North. On board as subcontractor for the roadworks is Strabag AG, Business Unit Berlin, which had also been involved in Contract Section 2/3 at Sonnenallee. The unit's duties include the roadworks along Dieselstraße as well as the establishment of all construction roads.

Besides the construction of the 650 m section of sunken motorway in an excavated pit with tied-back slurry walls, Contract Section 4 also includes a bridge across the motorway built as a double-webbed Tbeam with a width of approx. 39 m for utility lines, among other things. A culvert for water lines from the water utilities company Berliner Wasserbetriebe also forms part of the project scope.

The 16th construction section will extend the existing A 100 motorway to the north by 3.2 km, with three lanes of traffic in each direction, from Interchange Neukölln to Exit Treptower Park. Construction, which is to be carried out in a total of 7 sections, is scheduled for completion in 2022. The overall aim of the project is to reduce and bundle the traffic in the south-eastern part of the city centre and to improve the access to eastern Berlin.
