Kone wins order for Fifth + Columbia in Seattle

Kone, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has won an order to provide 19 elevators at Fifth + Columbia, a 44-story office building to be constructed in Seattle's central business district. The building is scheduled to open in 2017.

Kone solutions will include six Kone MonoSpace machine room-less elevators and 13 Kone MiniSpace(TM) elevators, traveling at speeds of up to 6 m/s. The office elevator groups will also utilize Kone Polaris(TM) Destination Control Systems, including state-of-the-art touchscreen destination operating panels.

The contract was awarded by JTM Construction, the project's general contractor. The project developer and owners are Daniels Real Estate & Stockbridge Capital Group.

The new building will be located in the heart of the Seattle central business district at 801 Fifth Avenue. In addition to more than 500,000 square feet of office space, a 184 room four-star hotel and spa will be located in the new tower. The new building's innovative geometric form and natural light glass facade were designed by Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects of Seattle. The hotel and restaurant spaces will be designed by world renowned designer Philippe Starck. Fine dining will be available at "The Bazaar" by internationally acclaimed Chef Jose Andrés.

Additionally, Kone's machine-room-less solutions are helping to return leasable space to the project owners by eliminating planned overhead machine rooms that were typically required with conventional traction elevator models.

The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2014.
