Building the world’s tallest sand castle – yes, Cat machines did that

7 Cat machines + 7 machine operators + 7 sand sculptors + 734 cubic metres of sand and water + 15 days = a sand castle towering 12.59 meters in the air; it's a sand castle that set a new Guinness World Record. Cat products can help build just about anything for Cat customers – a road, a bridge, a house, a dam, an airport, a hospital. And, yes, even a sand castle. Some – including Caterpillar – would even call it a work of art. "Sand Castle" is the latest in the Built For It Trials, a series of Caterpillar short films. It captures the action as two Cat hydraulic excavators, a wheel loader, two mini excavators, a vibratory soil compactor and a track-type tractor transform 734 cubic meters of quarry sand and water into the world's tallest sand castle.

Cat products and customers have helped build history including California's Golden Gate Bridge, the Panama Canal, France's Rhone River project, China's Three Gorges Dam and numerous Olympic games and World Fair sites. This masterpiece on a Brazilian beach is yet another example of Cat involvement in a monumental, record-breaking construction project. Even if Cat did help tear it down immediately after – isn't that half the fun of sand castles?

What were the other three Built For It trials?
