Strabag to build Volkswagen factory in Wrzesnia, Poland

Strabag Sp. z o.o., the Polish subsidiary of publicly listed Strabag SE, has been awarded the contract to build a new production plant for Volkswagen commercial vehicles in Poland. The automobile manufacturer plans to manufacture the next generation of its VW Crafter delivery van in the new factory in Września. Strabag has been commissioned to build three of the five modern production and industrial buildings that form part of the overall investment by the middle of 2015.

The new factory will be situated in Białężyce near Września, about 50 km from Poznań. Strabag will construct three reinforced concrete and steel buildings as part of the structural works on a 220 ha plot of land. The vehicle assembly building, including accessories department and bridges, as well as an office service building and a technical building will be completed within eight months after the start of construction.

"We are delighted to have been awarded the contract for another investment by the Volkswagen Group. In April of this year, we celebrated the grand opening of the production hall we built on the site of the Volkswagen factory in Polkowice. The signing of this new contract confirms our client's satisfaction with our work and the trust in the continued working relationship, " says Thomas Birtel, CEO of Strabag SE.

The new Volkswagen commercial vehicles plant is being built in the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone "Invest-Park", one of the largest and most dynamically developing industrial zones in Poland. The plant will be situated near the A2 motorway and the transit railway lines between Berlin and Moscow. The construction project in Września represents one of the largest investments in Poland in 25 years.
