Kone to equip Collins Square in Melbourne with sustainable people flow solutions

Kone, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, will supply 25 elevators and escalators to Tower Two at 727 Collins Street, as part of one of Australia's largest mixed-use developments Collins Square in Melbourne. The 38-floor tower includes 55,000 square meters of retail and commercial space and will be the tallest building constructed in the city's central business district in more than ten years.

Collins Square consists of five commercial office buildings and spreads over 200,000 square meters net lettable area over a whole city block. Committed to sustainability, the development is targeting three energy and environmental building ratings: a 5 Star Green Star Design, As Built v3 rating as well as a NABERS Energy 5 Star rating.

Due for completion in 2016, the Tower Two is designed to achieve 5 Star certification and it is expected to rate highly across the environmental criteria covering indoor environment quality, energy, transport, water materials, ecology and innovation. To this end, the Tower Two will use 19 Kone MiniSpace(TM) elevators, out of which eight travel at the speed of 7 m/s, 4 Kone MonoSpace elevators and two Kone TravelMaster(TM) escalators all set to reduce the building's energy consumption.

The Tower Two is developed by Walker Corporation and Brookfield Multiplex and designed by award-winning HASSELL Architects. The order was booked in the third quarter of 2014.
