Balfour Beatty awarded contract by Network Rail

Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, today announces it has been awarded a framework contract by Network Rail for the Central Region (LNW North) of the National Electrification Programme.

The seven year framework, anticipated to be worth in excess of £75 million, covers the design and installation of all electrification equipment for the Northern Hub electrification programme for routes between Manchester-Preston-Blackpool and Manchester-Stalybridge. Once complete it will provide faster, quieter and more reliable journeys for passengers in the North of England.

The award of this framework follows Balfour Beatty's involvement in Phases 1 and 2 of the programme covering the Liverpool-Manchester route. As part of these works Balfour Beatty has already introduced a number of High Output plant solutions to provide safer, more efficient delivery of electrification works.

This long term commitment also allows continued investment needed to develop innovation and improvements in the reliability of electrification technology and in the training and development of the workforce, including supporting the proposed development of a Network Rail Electrification Academy.
