| Amec wins contract for Roy Hill iron ore project, Western Australia Amec, the international engineering and project management company, has been awarded a contract by Samsung C&T for detailed design and engineering services for Package 3 on the Roy Hill iron ore mining project in Western Australia. The contract value to Amec is AU$20 million (approximately £11.7 million). Samsung C&T is the EPC contractor for the Roy Hill Project. Under the contract Amec is providing detailed design and engineering services for the project's bulk ore handling facility at the Port Landside works in Port Hedland in the far north of Western Australia. Amec has partnered with Halcrow to provide a combined team that brings significant ore handling plant and engineering expertise to the project. Work is underway and is scheduled for completion in summer 2014. The 55-million tonne-per-annum project is the largest iron ore mining, rail and port project to be developed in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The high-quality iron ore deposit is located at the eastern end of the Chichester Ranges approximately 115 kilometres north of Newman.
