Aker Solutions supports young talents at SIKT 2013

Fostering young talents and preparing them for leadership is key to seizing opportunities and assuring the successful development of Norwegian society and business. That's why Aker Solutions is the national partner for the SIKT 2013 conference. The two-day conference in Trondheim gathers 150 young talents and leaders from a range of industries, academia and organisations to discuss innovation and development.

The conference is the initiative of HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and arranged by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Boston Consulting Group, Aker Solutions and other Norwegian businesses.

The participants, including three delegates from Aker Solutions, will take part in lectures and workshops with a special focus on how to solve challenges currently being faced in Norway.

Idea to solution

Three members of the company's Solutioneers network of young professionals will take part in a presentation on subsea gas compression with veteran engineer Kjell Olav Stinessen. The 71-year-old's vision thirty years ago of placing a gas compressor on the seafloor to increase a field's production is now becoming a reality at the offshore Åsgard field.

"Innovation means taking an idea and developing it into a profitable product or solution, " says Stinessen. "This requires commitment and courage in both the project team and the company's management, particularly when you hit snags, such as a negative test result after two years of hard work. It's essential to stay motivated and have the management's support when you head back to the drawing board."

Aker Solutions in June delivered the 1,800-tonne steel frame for the world's first subsea gas compression facility at the Statoil-operated Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea. The installation, set to come on stream in 2015, will enable the recovery of an additional 280 million barrels of oil equivalents.

Networking through sharing

Heidi Wintervold, the lead cost controller at the Åsgard subsea gas compression project, is among those representing Aker Solutions at SIKT 2013.

"This conference is a great platform for meeting new people, expanding my network and exchanging ideas with other young professionals from different backgrounds and industries, " she says. "The topics covered in the agenda are particularly relevant and I'm most looking forward to the discussions on innovation and competence development."

Aker Solutions will invite participants for further discussions after the conference and will also take part in sessions after the gathering to discuss specific challenges and solutions. The company employs about 28,000 people in more than 30 countries and has an office in Trondheim.
