AMEC’s Samir Brikho co-chairs UAE-UK Business Council meeting

Samir Brikho, Chief Executive of AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, is co-chairing the fourth meeting of the UAE-UK Business Council, which begins today in Manchester, 20 May 2013.

Co-chairing the meeting with Mr Brikho is H.E. Nasser Ahmed Alsowaidi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development.

The Council was set up in 2011 by the UK and UAE governments and meets twice a year with the aim of increasing trade and investment between the two countries to £12 billion by 2015. The Council is identifying and recommending actions to remove impediments to greater trade, investment and commercial links between the two countries; exploring ways it can act as a catalyst for greater interest and linkages between the two countries' commercial sectors, respective SMEs and multinational businesses; and proposing innovative areas for collaboration that would benefit both countries economically and commercially in order to deepen the relationship and strengthen the partnership.

The previous meeting of the Council took place in November in Dubai and was attended by British Prime Minister David Cameron.

"Over the last two years the UAE-UK Business Council has brought our two countries closer together and developed deeper personal relationships between the key participants, " said Mr Brikho. "We have created working groups across the key sectors including energy, financial and professional services, infrastructure, education and training, defence and security, healthcare and SME and incubators.

"At this fourth meeting we will be looking at creating opportunities for UK and UAE companies in the UK and UAE, joint opportunities in third countries, greater engagement in corporate and social responsibility and the priority development of SMEs."
