Iberdrola announces social aid programme “Energy for Solidarity”

Fundación Iberdrola has set in motion the 2013 announcement of its social aid programme Energy for Solidarity, aimed at contributing to social development, well-being and the quality of life in the regions where Spanish power firm Iberdrola operates.

These aid packages seek to assist the most vulnerable sectors of the population in meeting basic needs and promote their integration, while contributing to the protection of the environment, as well as to foster other projects whose interests are in line with the goals of the Foundation and the Iberdrola Group's Social Responsibility strategy.

Fundación Iberdrola will take into consideration three types of initiatives. The projects that will be taken into account include those focused on the fight against poverty and social exclusion, with programmes aimed at the long-term unemployed and the elderly in a situation of helplessness, promoting children's school success, supporting employment for young people, preventing gender violence against women and helping victims, immigrants and drug addicts, and, in general, meeting the everyday basic needs of groups facing difficulties.

The programme will also consider projects aimed at protecting the environment and fighting climate change with the participation of some of the aforementioned groups, in order to carry out initiatives focused on the conservation of biodiversity and wilderness areas, sustainable development and the generation of green jobs for people at risk of exclusion.

The Foundation will also take into account projects aimed at providing care to, and improving the quality of life of disabled people, both healthcare-related and socio-educational.

The programme Energy for Solidarity, which has already benefited 156 projects, is open to private non-profit organisations declared of public interest that pursue activities of general interest and use voluntary workers to carry out their activities. Special consideration will also be given to those organisations that publish their official data, such as by-laws, reports and annual financial statements, based on criteria of transparency and good governance.

Applicants can submit their proposals until 25 April 2013. Fundación Iberdrola will provide up to 20,000 euros in funding for each selected project, without exceeding 50% of the project's total amount.
