Innovative touchpanels for building automation system

The Siemens Building Technologies Division introduced Desigo Touch and Web, an innovative operating solution for its Desigo building automation system. Two intuitive touchpanels offer significantly more convenient and efficient operation of building plants than conventional solutions. A newly developed interface adds browser-controlled plant operation. Touch-based operator units enable completely new, intuitive operating concepts valued by operating personnel for their ease of use. Recognizing this trend, Siemens is introducing two touchpanels, PXM40 (10-inch screen diagonal) and PXM50 (15-inch screen diagonal), for its Desigo building automation system. Equipped with capacitive display technology, both devices offer pressureless finger-based operation familiar from today's smartphones and tablets. Both touchpanels have a high-resolution, high-contrast, wide-screen color display and offer a wide viewing angle.

The Desigo touchpanels are dedicated operator units for building plants. Access to operating system functions is blocked in order to prevent changes to vital settings. Optimized for front mounting on panel doors and for continuous operation, the panels can be used to operate multiple Desigo PX automation stations simultaneously. To provide a quick and efficient plant overview, the most important values are displayed on a summary page even when no users are logged in.

Logged in users can use the graphical interface to navigate through different plants in order to operate their functions comfortably and efficiently. The scheduling program and the trend view can also be operated via the graphical user interface. Selected data points can be added to a favorites view for direct access, allowing users to quickly adjust values in order to optimize the plant's energy use. An alarm list displays faults, which can be acknowledged and reset right from the application. An LED integrated into the housing notifies users of alarms even when the display is off.

Desigo Touch and Web uses a newly developed web interface, which in turn is based on state-of-the-art web technologies. It allows users to operate and monitor plants from a web browser on a notebook PC or tablet. Web interface engineering is done using the Desigo XWorks Plus software, which makes it possible to customize the user interface.
