Bilfinger expands activities in high-margin construction services

Bilfinger, the engineering and services group, is rounding out its existing services portfolio with two acquisitions in building construction. In construction logistics, Bilfinger sees opportunities for growth and development in European markets outside Germany. Technical building equipment as a key function for energy-efficient real estate concepts is a promising area of activity.

In February, Bilfinger acquired CCL Consulting & Construction Logistics GmbH, thus expanding its involvement in construction site logistics. The company, which was founded in 2002, is headquartered in Berlin and generates an annual output volume of about €20 million. Together with the activities that are already present in the Group, the acquisition creates the largest provider of logistical engineering and services for construction projects in German-speaking markets.

CCL's range of services includes planning services for construction logistics as well as coordination and management of all on-site processes. The company also provides services related to construction execution such as site monitoring, access control, occupational safety, material and equipment leasing as well as facility and waste management for construction sites. In recent years, CCL and bauserve have managed to develop into market leaders in the field of construction logistics in Germany. CCL especially complements Bilfinger's portfolio in the area of engineering and planning services for construction logistics. The company's most important markets currently include Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

The two parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The acquisition remains subject to approval from antitrust authorities. The activities in the area of construction site logistics will be merged and the management of CCL will remain with the new company.

Also in February, Bilfinger acquired engineering company Rostek & Stolz in Magdeburg, Germany. As a result of the acquisition of R&S, Bilfinger further expands its competence in consulting and engineering services in the technical building equipment sector. The activities of R&S are focused on heating and air conditioning technology, sanitary technology, fire protection technology, electrical technology and energy consulting. Technical building equipment as one of the key components for increasing the energy efficiency of real estate complements the service offering from Building subsidiary bauperformance. The acquisition strengthens the regional market presence and the competitive position for comprehensive real-estate solutions from a single source.
