| Hochtief to expand New York subway and build Qatar‘s first tram Hochtief won new transportation projects worldwide in the third quarter of 2012: For example, U.S. subsidiary E.E.Cruz, a company of Hochtief's subsidiary Flatiron, will play an important role in New York City's first major expansion of the subway system in over 60 years. The company will build a new subway station on Second Avenue/96th Street east of Central Park and link it to the underground network. After completion of all works, around 250,000 passengers are planned to use the hub every day. In Qatar, Leighton subsidiary Habtoor Leighton Group will design, construct and operate the emirate's first tram system: The rail link which is located in the Education City district will provide mostly students with fast access to the education facilities, and be operational from September 2015. E.E.Cruz is a local construction company with an excellent network in New York. Hochtief took over the company in 2010 in order to share in the upcoming transportation investments of the metropolis. Since then, E.E.Cruz has been operating as a subsidiary of Flatiron and Turner. Flatiron is the Group's U.S. competence carrier for transportation projects. The company will perform the new contract which is worth a total of EUR 252 million (USD 324.6 million) in a joint venture with construction contractor Tully. The share of E.E.Cruz is 50 percent. In 2009, the two partners were commissioned with phase one to build the new link which spans six blocks on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Now the project will be completed through construction of the subway station: Within a mere 3.5 years, E.E.Cruz and Tully will build the underground structure with three entrances as well as two five-story ancillary buildings, and deliver all finishes. In addition, the Hochtief subsidiary together with its partner will also be responsible for reconstructing the roadway. The construction works are already in progress and will be completed by the end of 2016. In Qatar's capital Doha, the first tram system in the emirate will be constructed by September 2015. This People Mover System is planned to reduce the flow of traffic in Doha's Education City: Students who travel to the education facilities in their own car will be allowed to park their cars in multi-story carparks and travel free of charge on the battery-powered tram system. The project which has a total volume of EUR 328 million (QR 1.5 billion) will be designed, constructed and operated by Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) in a consortium with other companies including, among others, Siemens. HLG mostly takes over the construction of track work and will build the tram stops and a depot facility complete with maintenance workshops and administration buildings. The share of HLG in the contract is EUR 98.3 million (QR 450 million).
