Strabag to build Europe’s most modern waste treatment plant

The Urban Municipality of Ljubljana, represented by SNAGA public company d.o.o., awarded the consortium Strabag AG & Strabag Umweltanlagen GmbH (Strabag) with a € 112 million contract for the RCERO Ljubljana, a solid waste treatment plant comprising biogas generation out of organic waste, production of refuse derived fuel and recovery of recyclables. The biogas plant with the patented Strabag LARAN Plug Flow Digester will be one of the most modern of its kind in Europe.

Strabag was selected as best bidder out of three candidates who tendered within a competitive dialogue procedure lasting for three years. At the final round of the negotiations in 2012, Strabag had the most advantageous proposal for the investor according to the evaluation criteria of the tender which compounds investment costs, running costs as well as erection schedule. The project will already start in October 2012 with a total execution period of roughly four years.

Strabag is recognised as Central- und Eastern Europe's largest construction company and spans a wide range of construction services (Building Construction & Civil Engineering, Transportation Infrastructures, Special Ground Engineering and Tunnelling) and covers the entire value chain in the field of construction. But beside this core business segments Strabag is one of the worldwide leading companies in the field of waste treatment with track record back to the 1980s. Strabag has successfully realised numerous similar projects for various clients around Europe.

By engaging several reputed Slovene subcontractors a considerable amount of the added value will come locally from Slovenia.
