Benefits of high-impact, restrained-joint PVC pipe

CertainTeed Corporation and Innoveyor have teamed up to demonstrate the benefits of high-impact, restrained-joint PVC pipe at MINExpo International, September 24-26 in Las Vegas, USA. "Pipe used in mining applications has to be as tough as the men and women who work there," said John Coogan, channel marketing and communications manager for CertainTeed's Pipe & Foundations Group. "That's why, for the past 40 years, Yelomine has been a reliable choice for mining operations around the world. Its specially formulated PVC compound is perfectly suited for the rigors of today's mining operations."

Engineered for strength and endurance, Yelomine pipe contains impact modifiers for higher impact strength over extended periods, with average impact values up to five times greater than conventional PVC. It is extremely resistant to harsh environments, acids and most chemicals, and won't rust or corrode. Yelomine also includes ultraviolet inhibitors that allow the pipe to be used in exposed above-ground locations.

Yelomine features CertainTeed's performance-proven Certa-Lok retrained-joint system, which utilizes precision-machined grooves and a high-strength thermoplastic spline to create a fully circumferential, securely locked restrained joint. A flexible, elastomeric O-ring in the coupling provides a hydraulic pressure seal. Yelomine pipe doesn't require any solvents or butt fusion welding, making it quick and easy to install in minimal space and with minimal labor. Joints can be easily disassembled, as well, when system reconfiguration is needed.

Innoveyor utilizes Yelomine pipe in its YeloRoll conveyor rollers, which are designed for a "drop in" retrofit into customers' existing conveyor idler frames. The YeloRoll conveyor idler roll is 60 percent lighter, helping to prevent injuries and is 50 percent quieter than metal can rolls. In addition, it won't rust, corrode or damage conveyor belts and can be recycled or rebuilt for future use.

Yelomine's specially formulated PVC gives YeloRoll a non-stick, belt-friendly design with a longer shell life than standard steel can rolls. The welded end-cap seams of standard steel idler rolls corrode and separate from the idler roll shell, creating cutting edges, or "pizza cutters", that cut belts, bringing production to a stop. The InnoFlex bearing housing of the YeloRoll are made of a fiber-reinforced composite that are pressure fitted, rather than welded and won't damage the belt. The InnoFlex bearing technology is belt friendly, preventing the ingress of solids and liquids, increasing bearing life and conveyor uptime. Innoveyor manufactures a complete line of light weight retrofit conveyor idler rolls for belt widths 18- to 96-inches that meet or exceed CEMA B, C, D, E and F requirements.

Yelomine comes in standard 20-foot laying lengths, as well as custom sizes, and is available in either coupled-end or with an integral bell joining system. Yelomine is manufactured with I.P.S. outside diameters, in pressure classes from 90 to 315 psi. Compared to HDPE pipe, Yelomine achieves a greater flow capacity at similar pressure ratings, saving time and energy. The pipe can also be supplied with a series of drilled and tapped threaded holes to facilitate connections to spray systems.
