Leighton to deliver new Australian Embassy in Indonesia

PT Leighton Contractors Indonesia, part of the Leighton Asia, India and Offshore Group, has secured a contract for the construction of the iconic new Australian Embassy in Jakarta. The contract is valued at approximately A$230 million and will be delivered as a joint venture between PT Leighton Contractors Indonesia and PT Total Bangun Persada Tbk.

Since the development of the current Australian Embassy in Jakarta in the early 1990s, Leighton has accumulated significant experience and a solid track record with major embassy projects in Asia, including the construction and refurbishment of the Australian embassies in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, and is well positioned to take advantage of future opportunities in this highly specialised area.

The new Australian Embassy complex will occupy a 40,500-square metre brownfield site in Jakarta's Patra Kuningan district. The construction of the new complex includes a five-storey chancery, an official residence for the Head of Mission, accommodation for 32 staff, recreational facilities, four guard stations, a contiguous basement, engineering services infrastructure as well as comprehensive landscaping. Construction work starts immediately and is scheduled to last three years.
