Osram once again best in class in LED light bulb test

In the September issue of test magazine, an Osram LED light bulb once again was selected as the test winner. The Osram LED Superstar Classic B25 was rated as "good" (overall score of 1.6). It was the best rating of all candle-shaped LED light bulbs tested by Stiftung Warentest. In last September's issue of the Stiftung Warentest publication another LED light bulb from Osram, the Parathom Pro Classic A 80, came out on top with a rating of "very good" (overall score of 1.3).

The inspectors point to Osram light bulbs' "outstanding lighting qualities", which come close to producing the same light as popular incandescent lights, as the decisive factor in their favour. The light produced by the Osram LED Superstar Classic B25 makes the colours of all illuminated objects appear correctly.

"Every test win confirms to us that our products deliver what we promise: the highest quality. Already we've managed to convince many consumers with regard to LED technology, which saves electricity costs and scores points with its very long service life," explains Klaus-Günter Vennemann, CEO of the General Lighting business unit at Osram.

Even the high initial procurement costs for LED light bulbs pay off, according to Stiftung Warentest: "With LED technology, the energy costs for the same amount of light can be reduced to less than a fifth of the costs generated with conventional incandescent light bulbs." Soon Osram will significantly reduce this cost barrier even further by putting the first LED 40-watt replacement on the market with a recommended retail price of less than 10 euros.

"People who choose the right alternatives to incandescent light bulbs save money and relieve the burden on the environment," Stiftung Warentest concludes. The 1 September phase-out of incandescent bulbs generally found in households will in no way create a problem for consumers. Instead, they will have a wide selection of options when it comes to lighting technology: ranging from LED to energy-saving to halogen light bulbs.
