SNC-Lavalin awarded contract for Antucoya project in Chile

Canadian engineering giant SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a contract by Minera Antucoya SA, a subsidiary of Antofagasta Minerals SA (AMSA), to provide overall management, detailed engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the Antucoya project in Chile.

Antucoya is located in the country's Antofagasta region, 125 km northeast of Antofagasta. It will produce approximately 80,000 tonnes of copper per year, and involve processing facilities that employ crushing, leaching, solvent extraction and electrowinning technologies.

SNC-Lavalin's contract includes overall management and integration of four process packages to be executed by other firms, as well as EPCM services for the detailed engineering, procurement and construction management of the balance of plant, which includes roads, camps, utilities, power distribution and other key infrastructure elements. The project is scheduled for mechanical completion in the third quarter of 2014.
