Baker awarded contract for MKAA Runway Reconstruction Program

Michael Baker Jr., Inc., a unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE MKT:BKR), announced that it has been awarded a $2.3 million contract by the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (MKAA) for design services for its Runway Reconstruction Program at McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville, over a two- to four-year period. The Program consists of multiple projects centered on the total reconstruction of Runway 5L-23R. Baker's primary program role includes design, bidding, and program management services, with the possibility of additional construction services in future contracts.

The services provided by Baker and its team members during the contract period will assist MKAA in maintaining airfield operations while Runway 5L-23R is shut down for reconstruction. Noteworthy project elements include installation of a temporary instrument landing system (ILS) for the parallel Runway 5R-23L, extensive earthwork operations to improve drainage and prepare a new glideslope area, and taxiway system improvements including new pavements and demolition of obsolete pavements.
