Labyrinth of Light

Set among motorways and industrial estates in Töging am Inn in Bavaria is a place of peace and reflection called the Labyrinth of Light. 49 rooflights on the 49 m2 roof surface create a unique light display inside the Labyrinth on the site of a regional mechanical engineering company. They create a mysterious ambience, which gives one pause for thought. To ensure that this magical place continues to work its charm long into the future, the rooflights, joints and roof surface were waterproofed with Triflex ProDetail and Triflex ProFibre. It is the fitting system properties that convinced Jens Landgraf, Project Manager at Empl Bauspenglerei und Flachdachbau GmbH, of the qualities of Triflex liquid applied waterproofing: short curing times, very good adhesion to a variety of substrates and vertical surfaces and effortless waterproofing of even the most complicated details.

From afar the Labyrinth of Light looks like a nondescript concrete cube in the middle of an industrial estate. It's not until you approach and enter the cube do you sense the magic at work. 49 rooflights filter the sunlight and create a unique ambience inside the cube. Waterproofing the rooflights on the roof surface long-term required a system that would adhere to the stainless steel lights, uniformly integrate the numerous details and cable openings into the concrete surface and could be conveniently applied to the little remaining surface and the 28 metre long roof parapet joint.

Triflex ProDetail can also be safely applied in low temperatures of down to -5°C. The fast-curing liquid applied waterproofing with a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) base forms a seamless surface with no joints. The surface is weather- and UV-resistant and provides the Labyrinth of Light with long-lasting protection against damp.

The ideal complement for hard-to-reach details is Triflex ProFibre. The fibre-reinforced special solution also waterproofs cable openings – which make fleece reinforcement impossible – long-term.

Even the transition of substrate from stainless steel light to concrete surface posed no problem whatsoever for the Triflex systems. Triflex liquid applied waterproofing shows just how good its adhesive properties are on the slanted and vertical surfaces of the joints between light and roof surface and the 28 m long roof parapet.
