European Coatings Show 2013: preparations in progress

Raw material suppliers, engineers and laboratories are working under intense pressure, because the coatings industry is heading for its next highlight: the European Coatings Show with accompanying Congress in 2013. From 18–21 March 2013, engineers, developers and decision-makers meet again at the world's leading exhibition for the paint and coatings industry in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg to update on the latest developments in the production of high-grade and competitive coatings and paints. A new feature at the European Coatings Show 2013 is a sponsored pavilion for young innovative companies from Germany. The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology pays up to 80 per cent of the stand rental and construction costs for promising newcomers to the industry. There is also news from Europe's leading Coatings Congress: Abstracts of current developments in the production and formulation of paints, coatings, construction chemicals and adhesives can be submitted until 31 August 2012.

Coatings manufacture is a market with a future. In a current study, the market researcher Global Industry Analysts expects the global coatings market to achieve sales of 107 billion USD in 2017. The growth drivers are not only stricter standards and growing competition. There is also a rising demand for increasingly intelligent products with extra functions. For example, the car paint of the future will produce power in a similar way to solar cells. Or facade paint will be able to clean itself in future.

Innovations like these are the focus of attention when the coatings world meets in Nürnberg every two years. At the European Coatings Show 2011, 887 exhibitors from 45 countries presented their product spectrum of high-grade coatings and paints, sealants, construction chemicals and adhesives on more than 30,000 m2 of net display space. Some 26,000 trade visitors came to Nürnberg to update on the latest products and services during the three days of the exhibition; 63 per cent of them were from abroad.

The next opportunity to use this productive international exhibition environment for preparing the ground for new business is from 19–21 March 2013. About 90 per cent of last year's space is already booked.

The European Coatings Congress, Europe's biggest and most important coatings congress, will again be at home in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 18–19 March 2013. In 2011, 648 participants from 40 countries met to exchange views at the highest level at the presentation of the around 150 papers in 25 sessions. For the European Coatings Congress in 2013, researchers from universities, industrial companies and other institutes can submit their abstracts on current developments in the production and formulation of paints, coatings, construction chemicals and adhesives online until 31 August 2012. Both industry-specific and application-orientated papers are needed.
