Zumtobel to illuminate new WU campus in Vienna

The Zumtobel brand has succeeded in winning another multi-million contract in the Austrian capital. The Vorarlberg lighting solutions specialist is to illuminate the new campus at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU). In collaboration with four electrical installation companies, Zumtobel will also be responsible for installing the luminaires for this major project. The contract is worth EUR 6.5 million. Roughly two-thirds of the order volume will be delivered in the current financial year 2012/13, with the remainder to follow the year after. The new WU campus is currently the biggest construction project in Vienna and consists of six building complexes designed by renowned architectural practices such as Zaha Hadid Architects / London, NO.MAD Arquitectos / Madrid, Estudio Carme Pinós / Barcelona, Crab Studio / London, BUSarchitektur / Vienna and the Atelier Hitoshi Abe / Sendai.

A comprehensive portfolio of Zumtobel luminaires will be used to light the new rooms of the University of Economics and Business. These will include numerous pendant luminaires, continuous row systems, light lines and moisture-proof fittings, all of which will be produced at the plant in Dornbirn / Austria. Pendant luminaires will be delivered by Zumtobel's plant in Usingen / Germany. The plant in Lemgo / Germany will provide spots and downlights.

The contract was awarded by the University and the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft, the organisation which manages Austria's publicly owned property. Their goal is to create an "economically and ecologically sustainable showpiece".
