Bilfinger Berger to modernize power plant in Romania

German builder Bilfinger Berger has won another project in South-East Europe: The engineering and services Group has received an order from Romania's state utility CEN Craiova to equip the lignite-burning power plant Isalnita with modern flue gas desulfurization systems. The project, with a total volume of €75 million and a contract period of about two years, is to be carried out together with a regional partner. Bilfinger Berger's share of €40 million is more than half of the order volume.

The flue gas desulfurization systems which will be used to retrofit two blocks of the power plant will ensure that emissions meet stringent European standards in the future. With the help of this technology it is possible to remove more than 97 percent of sulfurous emissions from the exhaust gas.

Bilfinger Berger thus records a further success in the attractive market for power plant refurbishment in Eastern Europe: The Group recently won a contract for the modernization of a power plant in Macedonia. In Poland, the company is modernizing the steam generator at Europe's largest lignite-burning power plant.
