Otis to provide elevators to landmark building in China's coastal megacity

Otis China has won a contract to supply and install 66 elevators, including 36 units with energy-efficient ReGen drives, to Shenzhen Futian Technology Plaza in southern China. Designed to attract the world's leading high-tech companies to Guangdong Province, the Plaza's 200-meter commercial tower is expected to be completed in late 2012.

ReGen drives, an innovative Otis technology, capture energy generated by the elevators and deliver it back to the building for use by other systems. In addition, Shenzhen Futian Technology Plaza will include five Gen2 elevators, the company's premier, energy-efficient product. The award-winning line of highly reliable Gen2 elevator systems from Otis reduces energy consumption and utilizes patented, polyurethane-coated steel belts. Flexible belts make the Gen2 machine up to 70 percent smaller and up to 50 percent more efficient than conventional geared machines. A more compact, energy-efficient machine frees up valuable building space and reduces operating costs. Further, Gen2 elevators from Otis require no additional lubrication, eliminating the need for storage, cleanup and disposal of this potentially hazardous waste.

Otis began doing business in China in 1888 and was recently selected to supply and install 700 energy-efficient elevators for an immense social housing reconstruction project in Jiangsu. Late last year, Otis designated China as a stand-alone market, recognizing the country's vital importance to the global elevator market. Today, China accounts for more than half of all elevator sales worldwide.
