Precast concrete facade for South Florida temple

Gate Precast Company announced it has been awarded the architectural precast concrete contract for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The 28,000-square-foot temple will be the second in the state of Florida. Gate Precast joins the construction team led by Suffolk Construction. Architectural Nexus of Salt Lake City, Utah, designed the new temple consisting of two levels. In early 2011, the architect selected Gate Precast Company as the Precast Design Assist Consultant to assist in the development of building precast cladding. Gate created a 3D model of the South Florida temple to assist with conflict resolution during design assist.

The abundance of design possibilities of precast concrete has enabled it to compete with the most exclusive façade claddings. The Fort Lauderdale temple's light colored precast façade resembles natural stone used on many temples in the U.S. Dominant precast features include a curved colonnade with arched window openings and detailed mold work, decorative landscape elements cast into the panels, a 41-foot central precast spire, and lettering cast above the temple's entrance.

"Gate Precast is proud to be a part of the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Florida. In 1994, Gate Precast produced well-detailed, white precast concrete panels for The Orlando Temple, the state's first. Nearly, twenty years later, the temple is still known for its pure white façade," said President, COO of Gate Precast Dean Gwin.

"Knowing that the Fort Lauderdale temple will fulfill the prayers and aspirations of South Floridians will ensure we manufacture and install a quality product for this sacred edifice."

Gate Precast brings prior LDS temple experience to this project as it completed the 32,000-square foot LDS temple in Kansas City, last year, and is currently working on temples of similar size in Gilbert and Phoenix. Gate Precast has also produced precast panels for The Orlando Temple, the first in the state, and for an addition at the LDS Temple in Atlanta.
