URS JV awarded EPC contract by Tennessee Valley Authority

URS Corp announced that Advatech LLC, a joint venture between URS and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, has been awarded a contract by Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to provide engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services to build a gypsum dewatering facility at the 1,510 MW Kingston Fossil Plant in Harriman, Tennessee.

Advatech is managing all construction activities and will be responsible for starting up the facility, which is expected to begin commercial operations in June 2012. Advatech provided the process and conceptual engineering for the facility and the detailed design required to tie into the existing Advatech-supplied air quality control system. Construction of the gypsum dewatering facility is under way. Under the terms of the contract, the completed facility will process up to 723 gallons per minute of slurry from the nine-unit coal-fired generation plant. The facility could be expanded in the event the plant burns a higher sulfur fuel. The dewatered gypsum byproduct will be stored in an on-site disposal area.
